Bacon Gummies
Were you surprised that bacon gummies even exist? I know I was!
Bacon is, of course, one of those foods that almost everybody loves – unless you are unable to eat it for health, ethical, or religious reasons.
On the plus side, bacon is a good source of protein and contains a number of important vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B12, iron, and zinc.
Eating bacon can also have several negative health effects, especially if it is consumed in large amounts or as part of a diet that is high in other processed meats. Some of the potential health risks of eating bacon include:
- Increased risk of heart disease: bacon is high in saturated fat and cholesterol, which can increase the risk of heart disease.
- Increased risk of certain cancers: some studies have suggested that a diet high in processed meats like bacon may be associated with an increased risk of certain types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer.
- Increased risk of digestive problems: bacon is high in salt and can cause digestive problems in some people, such as bloating and constipation.
- Weight gain: bacon is high in calories and can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess.
Eating bacon in moderation can be part of a healthy diet, but it is important to balance it with other nutritious foods and to be mindful of portion sizes. It is also a good idea to choose leaner cuts of bacon and to cook it in a healthy way, such as baking it or grilling it rather than frying it.
It is important to remember that the risks associated with eating bacon can be minimized by consuming it in moderation and as part of a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutritious foods.
So, if you still want to make your own bacon gummies, here’s how:
Ingredients
- 2 slices bacon
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp unflavored gelatin
- 2 tbsp organic maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C).
- Lay the bacon slices on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until crispy.
- Remove the bacon from the oven and let it cool.
- Once cooled, chop the bacon into small pieces.
- In a small saucepan, combine the water, gelatin, and maple syrup. Place the saucepan over a low heat and stir until the gelatin has fully dissolved.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped bacon.
- Pour the mixture into a silicone mold or a small, shallow dish lined with plastic wrap.
- Place the mold or dish in the refrigerator for at least two hours, or until the gummies have set.
- Once set, remove the gummies from the mold or dish and enjoy!
